The Respect Y. O. S. P. Program
1. ENROLLMENT: This session involves a
detailed discussion of parental
responsibility: past, present and future activities of the juvenile and
expectations for successful completion of the program.
2. INTAKE NIGHT: All participants and parents are brought together.
Lectures, counselors and staff confront the participants and discuss the
harsh reality of incarceration. The session is emotional and sensitive.
Small children should not attend.
3. COUNSELING & FAMILY ACTION: A community-base organization will provide
ongoing counseling service to all participants and family members.
4. COMMUNITY SERVICE: Each participant is required to perform 8 hours or
more of community service, Services: including graffiti removal, property
and community revitalization.
5. BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION: (REALITY ORIENTATION) This program is designed to
"shock" the participant's conscience and awaken them to the realities of
prison life and other negative realities. The sessions are conducted by
volunteer ex-cons and facilitated by The Respect YO.S.P. Staff personnel.
6. CAREER GUIDANCE: This program will teach participants what is a resume
and how to create one of their own. We will assist all participants through
a self-help concept to learn job skill, interviewing techniques and dress
code. Resources on job fairs, one stop etc.
7. DRUG & ALCOHOL EDUCATION: This session will include a counselor who will
teach the reality of drugs and alcohol and what effect drugs and alcohol can
have on your body and brain. Guest speakers both ex-drug-abuser and
ex-alcoholics will share his/her life story on how their dependency has
altered their life.
8. SEX EDUCATION: We teach abstinence, as well as reality of STD's, being a
teen parent, note this is age appropriate.
9. CORRECTIVE BEHAVIOR: (JUVENILE SHOPLIFTING) This session teaches the
participant that stealing is wrong. In addition, we teach them how they can
achieve what they need legally.
10. ANGER MANAGEMENT: The session teaches the participants that anger is a
natural emotion however it is how you channel this behavior is most
important. We teach several techniques on how to handle your anger like
taking a long walk, or a (100-count) time out to think about why they are
angry, and how to address the issue at the appropriate time. By living in a
multicultural society we at The Respect YO.S.P. program teach race diversity
and cultural tolerance.
11. PHYSICAL TRAINING: Each participant is required to perform various
physical training: sit-ups, push-ups, light jogging etc.
